Obligatory Intro

A while back, a friend and I discussed the idea of collaborating on a "survival" blog. We set one up, but it never really materialized, probably due to my lack of follow-through. I was thinking about it earlier today, but couldn't even remember what the login info was, so I thought I'd give it a go solo. If he's still interested, maybe we can merge this blog into the collaborative one later on.

I'm a devoted Christian and budding gun enthusiast. I practice Aikido, Judo, and occasionally Karate under Pat at Mokuren Dojo. I have blogs relating to all that stuff and you can access them by clicking on the words there.

The "dummy" in the title of this blog refers to me. I've never been very self-reliant. Not an outdoors-type guy. I know very little about survivalism, woodcraft, or other skills that may be needed in a worst-case scenario. The purpose of this blog is to chronicle what I learn about this stuff as I go. I feel I have a responsibility to protect and provide for my family in any circumstance. Admittedly, I'm a bit paranoid (but as the saying goes, "Just because I'm paranoid, doesn't mean they're not out to get me"). My wife has compared me to Dwight Schrute on more than one occasion (if you don't know, Dwight is a character on The Office who always thinks in terms of self-defense...including having weapons stashed on his person, in his desk, and other places in the office...he even had a compound bow hidden under the sofa).
